In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or use a hand mixer with whisk attachments): Beat the room temperature cream cheese and room temperature unsalted butter on low speed until smooth and lump-free.
1 cup (8 oz) full fat cream cheese, 3 tbsp unsalted butter
Add the pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Increase the speed slightly and beat until light, creamy, and fluffy.
4 tbsp pure maple syrup, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
That’s it! This is truly an easy maple cream cheese frosting that comes together in minutes.
This recipe makes 1 1/2 cups of frosting ~ enough frosting to cover one 8 or 9" round cake liberally, one 9X13 cake, or 12 cupcakes. For a 2 or 3 tier cake, I recommend doubling this recipe.
Make sure to bring the butter and cream cheese to room temperature. If they are too cold it will create a lumpy frosting or if they are too warm it will create a runny frosting. So that sweet spot in the middle is what we're looking for. I typically cut my butter and cream cheese into large cubes as soon as I take it out of the fridge and then let it sit for about 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the temperature in your home.
