Morning Devotional: When Dependence Brings Freedom
Dependence = Freedom
Hearing this in the world sounds very upside down. Usually when we hear of someone depending on another we think that they are confined and chained. We tend to think we are free only if we are independent. But with Christ, we depend on Him for freedom. When we depend on Him, we are resting. We no longer strive, carry our own self righteousness, and play all the roles of our life ourselves. Where we wanted to dance by ourselves, He comes in and leads the dance. When we wanted to wash our own feet, he comes in and washes our feet…and our hands that tried to do the work themselves. Where we looked to false comforts and intimacies, God comes in and loves us with a kindness and grace this world could never offer. When we depend on God for all this and more, we are who we were made to be…free. Free from the isolation. Free from the guilt. Free from all striving. Free from condemnation. Free from sin. Free to be who He has called you to be.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
