Whipped Tallow Face Cream Recipe (Lightweight & Non-greasy)
Did you know you can make homemade whipped tallow face cream at home for a fraction of the cost of clean luxury skincare brands? And it is SO easy โ I promise.
The most important variable is the quality of your ingredients. In this post, Iโll walk you through how to make a whipped tallow face cream, why it works so well for facial skin, and how to source the highest-quality ingredients for a nourishing, natural face moisturizer.
Personally, tallow face cream has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I live in the desert, and at 41 years old, I truly believed dry skin was just something I had to accept. No matter how many face creams I tried โ luxury brands, โmedical-gradeโ formulas, or trendy clean products โ nothing kept my skin hydrated. By midday, my face felt tight, irritated, and dull. I started noticing fine lines and age spots and felt like I was constantly fighting the environment.
Then I discovered whipped tallow face cream โ and truly, everything changed.

My Personal Experience With Whipped Tallow Face Cream
Living in the desert means the air pulls moisture from your skin nonstop. I tried everything: layering serums, switching cleansers, adding facial oils โ nothing provided lasting hydration.
Within the first few weeks of using a small pea-sized amount of whipped tallow face cream, my skin felt different. Not greasy. Not coated. Justโฆ healthy.
Over time, my skin texture improved dramatically. My fine lines softened, my age spots faded, and my skin finally held moisture all day โ something no traditional facial moisturizer had ever been able to do for me.
That was the moment I realized this wasnโt just another face cream.
It was skin barrier repair at a deeper level.
Why Whipped Tallow Face Cream Is Different
Whipped tallow face cream is made from grass-fed beef tallow, a traditional ingredient used for generations in ancestral skincare. While it may sound surprising, tallowโs fatty acid profile is remarkably similar to the skinโs natural sebum.
Because of this, tallow absorbs easily into facial skin instead of sitting on the surface. It works with your skin to restore balance, strengthen the moisture barrier, and support long-term hydration.
Tallow is naturally rich in fatty acids like stearic acid and linoleic acid, which help:
- Strengthen the skin barrier
- Reduce inflammation
- Improve skin elasticity
Rather than masking dryness, this natural face cream with tallow nourishes the skin at a foundational level โ making it especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, or aging skin.
Why Sourcing Organic 100% Grass-Fed Tallow Matters
Not all tallow is created equal โ and this matters even more when youโre using it on your face.
Using organic 100% grass-fed tallow ensures your whipped tallow face cream is clean, nutrient-dense, and free from unwanted toxins.
Benefits of Using Grass-Fed Tallow for Face Cream
1. Superior Nutrient Profile
Grass-fed tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K2, which support skin renewal, elasticity, and barrier health โ making it ideal for a nourishing tallow face cream.
2. Healthier Fatty Acid Composition
Grass-fed tallow contains more omega-3 fatty acids and CLA, with a better omega-3 to omega-6 ratio to help calm inflammation and support sensitive facial skin.
3. Cleaner & More Skin-Friendly
Because toxins can accumulate in fat, choosing organic grass-fed tallow ensures your whipped tallow face cream is free from hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, and GMO residues.
4. Ideal for Sensitive Facial Skin
Grass-fed tallow closely mimics the skinโs natural oils, allowing the cream to absorb easily without clogging pores or irritating reactive skin.
5. Better Texture & Stability
Grass-fed tallow whips into a light, creamy texture with a mild scent and natural shelf stability โ no synthetic additives needed.
6. Ethical & Sustainable Choice
Choosing organic, grass-fed tallow supports regenerative farming and animal welfare โ benefits that extend beyond skincare.
This is why I transitioned to making my own face cream at home. A small amount goes a long way, and sourcing from trusted farms makes it affordable and accessible. My personal favorite brand is Fatworks Tallow.

The Skin Benefits of Tallow (Why It Works)
Hereโs why whipped tallow face cream delivers such noticeable results:
- Deep, lasting hydration โ Tallow provides intense hydration without feeling greasy and helps the skin hold moisture all day, even in dry climates.
- Strengthens the skin barrier โ Rich in fatty acids like stearic acid, tallow supports a healthy barrier, reducing dryness, irritation, and sensitivity.
- Supports aging skin โ Naturally occurring vitamins help improve skin elasticity, soften fine lines, and promote a healthy, radiant glow.
- Calms irritation โ With natural anti-inflammatory properties, tallow is gentle enough for sensitive skin, eczema-prone skin, and even baby skin.
- Balances oil production โ Tallow contains linoleic acid, which helps regulate oil production and makes it suitable for prone skin and combination skin.
- Highly effective in small amounts โ A small pea-sized amount goes a long way, making tallow both effective and economical.
Because it works with your skin rather than against it, tallow face cream is a great option for anyone tired of cycling through products that never truly deliver results.
Benefits of the Supporting Ingredients
Organic Jojoba Oil
Organic jojoba oil isnโt actually an oil โ itโs a wax ester that closely resembles sebum. It helps balance oil production, improves absorption, and adds a silky texture without disrupting the skin barrier.
Vitamin E Oil
Vitamin E provides antioxidant protection, helping reduce environmental stress and support skin repair.
Essential Oils
When used correctly, essential oils add therapeutic benefits. Frankincense supports cell renewal and fine line reduction, while geranium balances and soothes. This gentle essential oil blend is perfect for a nourishing face cream โ though itโs completely optional, especially if this is your first time.

Whipped Tallow Face Cream Recipe (Lightweight & Non-greasy)
Ingredients
- 1 cup organic grass fed tallow
- 1/4 cup organic jojoba oil
- 1/2 tsp vitamin E oil optional
- 10 – 12 drops frankincense essential oil
- 5 drops geranium essential oil
Instructions
- Melt the grass-fed tallow using a double boiler over low heat until fully liquid.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir in the jojoba oil, vitamin E and drops of essential oil
- Refrigerate for about 1-2 hours until just set, not solid. This step is important to get right otherwise the tecture of the tallow will be off. You should be able to create an indent in the tallow when you poke it, but you don't want it so set that it has become solid.
- Whip with a hand mixer or kitchenaid until light and fluffy
- Funnel or spoon into clean jars and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or extreme heat.
