Navigating Grief And An Introduction To The Enneagram

On this episode I am chatting with the incredible, Danielle Bennett. Danielle is a poet, communicator, and educator, who currently works in communications at an education non-profit in Los Angeles. Danielle also performs and teaches poetry on the side. While her day-to-day work has given her a wide range of experiences in tackling challenging issues, poetry has been a lifeboat through it all. She deeply believes in the power of poetry as a cathartic tool and means of compelling storytelling.

Danielle has a Masters in Education from Loyola Marymount University, where she wrote her thesis on arts education as a venue for social justice. She has worked with University of Northwestern, Mosaic LA, Oasis Church, Saddleback Church, Biola University, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and YWCA International. Her work has also been featured in multiple podcasts and publications.

On the show today Danielle shares one of her most well received pieces of written work to date, a poem called She, which has influenced thousands since it was first shared with the public three years ago. She discusses the inspiration for this poem, as well as the journey she went on to get to where she is now as a poet, a teacher, and an expert in communications. Danielle also opens up about her experience of walking through the most painful season of her life in 2018, and shares some comforting words of advice and encouragement for those walking through grief. Her honesty and vulnerability seriously bring me to tears, and undoubtedly will be a comfort to many of you. Before we wrap up Danielle and I dive a little bit into the enneagram and she shares a brief summary of what it’s all about it, and the role that it has played in her own life.

I experienced a sense of God in the darkness and in the silence in a way that I have never felt before. I didn’t need Him to speak to know what He was saying. I didn’t need to hear words, or read words, or write words, to have this abiding sense of Him being very close, and very present.
