Greek Burger & Fries

This Greek Burger & Fries recipe puts a unique spin on an old classic! A grass fed beef patty topped with fresh homemade tzatziki, red onion, tomato, feta, and avocado: it is both nutrient dense and delicious. And I promise, once you give it a try, it will become your new favorite dinner go to. For those with a gluten intolerance (such as myself), you can enjoy this burger on a bed of red leaf lettuce or arugula. It is delicious! And you never miss the bun 😉

What Are The Ingredients In This Greek Burger & Fries?

100% Grass Fed Beef: I highly recommend opting for 100% grass fed beef for this recipe. Contrary to popular opinion, beef is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet! 100% grass fed beef, in particular, is higher in Omega 3 fatty acids and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) than its grain fed counterpart. It also doesn’t contain antibiotics or hormones. And grass fed beef is also loaded with micronutrients such as B vitamins, iron, and vitamin D. Grass fed beef makes this recipe one of the most nutrient dense meals you can consume.

Fresh Tzatziki: Fresh Tzatziki is the perfect compliment to delicious greek burgers. Tzatziki is a salted yogurt and cucumber dip that’s made of strained greek yogurt, shredded cucumber, dill, mint, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, and salt. It is light and refreshing and full of both flavor and nutrients.

Oregano: Oregano adds a strong mediterranean flavor and a hint of subtle sweetness to these burgers. And it has tons of health benefits. Oregano is rich in antioxidants and is known to help decrease inflammation and fight even cancer. Feel free to be generous with the oregano in this recipe, depending on flavor preference.

Garlic: Fresh minced garlic adds so much flavor to these burgers! And it is loaded with health benefits. The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, often called the father of Western medicine, prescribed garlic to treat various medical conditions — and modern science has confirmed many of these beneficial health effects. Garlic is loaded with antioxidants, micronutrients, and plant compounds that have been found to have endless medicinal properties.

Yukon Gold Potatoes: The fries for this recipe are made out of Yukon Gold potatoes. I’ve tried many different potatoes and have found that Yukon gold makes the best french fries. Simply toss the sliced potatoes with some olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Roast them for about 20 minutes. And you have a delicious and nutritious french fry.

How to Make This Delicious Greek Burger and Fries

Step One: For the burgers – Chop the red and green onion finely. Then add to a large bowl, along with the ground beef, garlic and spices. Mix well with your hands and form into patties.

Step Two:  Preheat a cast iron or stainless steel pan on the stovetop over high heat. Once the pan is hot, place burger patties onto the pan on the stovetop and sear on both sides. Then lower the heat and cook until until the internal temperature reaches at least 145F. Alternatively these burgers can be cooked on the grill.

Step Three: For the fries – Preheat the oven to 425F. Chop the potatoes into wedges. Add them to a bowl and top with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Step Four: Place the sliced potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 20-30 minutes or until the fries are crispy on both sides. Flip halfway through baking.

Step Five: Make the Fresh Tzatziki (either dairy or dairy free) with the recipe at this link. You can also purchase pre-made tzatziki at many stores. But in my opinion, homemade tzatziki tastes way better and is most often the healthier option.

Step Six: Serve burgers on top of red leaf lettuce, arugula, or a bun. Then top with fresh tzatziki, red onion, tomato, avocado, and feta cheese. Serve alongside the greek fries and olives.
